United States President Donald Trump on Sunday directed officials from the US Immigrations and Customs Department (ICE) “to detain and deport illegal aliens” from Democratic-run cities after massive protests erupted against Trump’s immigration policies, AP reported.
Trump released a statement on the Truth Social platform asking the ICE officials “to do all in their power to achieve the very important goal of delivering the single largest Mass Deportation Program in History.”
He also said that the officers "must expand efforts to detain and deport Illegal Aliens in America's largest cities, such as Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York, where Millions upon Millions of Illegal Aliens reside.”
"These, and other such Cities, are the core of the Democrat Power Center, where they use Illegal Aliens to expand their Voter Base, cheat in Elections, and grow the Welfare State, robbing good paying Jobs and Benefits from Hardworking American Citizens,” he added.
Trump concluded the directive by stating, “Now Go, Get The Job Done.”
While departing from the White House for the G7 Summit, Trump said that “If we didn’t have the National Guard on call and ready, they would rip Los Angeles apart,” AP reported.
The Defense Department had deployed about 700 active-duty Marines to Los Angeles to support 4,100 National Guard troops already on the ground to respond to the protests.
Stephen Miller, White House deputy chief of staff and main architect of Trump's immigration policies, had earlier claimed that ICE officers would target at least 3,000 arrests a day, up from about 650 a day during the first five months of Trump's second term.
