Well, this weekend was surely not about The Weeknd. Selena Gomez’s latest song ‘Single Soon’ has been garnering a lot of attention to the singer’s past relationship with the Canadian singer The Weeknd. Anyway, upsetting many, Selena has made it ‘crystal clear’ that it wasn’t about her ex-boyfriend.
The confusion arose as the lyrics of the new single saw Gomez happily boasting about her plans to break up with a boyfriend and going to a party on her own. Shutting all mounting rumors, the “Blinding Lights” singer posted on Instagram saying they “Couldn’t be more false”.
Selena Gomez and The Weeknd had dated for about 10 months in the year 2017. Their romance was quite loved by fans of both singers and a ray of hope for Selena's new single being about The Weeknd was noticed among their supporters.s. However, despite clarifications, the fans on the Internet are happy finding lyrics that suit the speculation quite well.
For instance, the lyrics “I don’t wanna see a tear” seems to echo with The Weeknd’s 2020 hit single “Save Your Tears”, which was also rumored to be about Selena. Another line that says, “And the weekend’s almost here”, took the excitement among the fans to another level, thinking there might be a connection to the singer The Weeknd.  
However, the confusion seems to rest with both the singers denying any connection of their past relationship with the song. But surely, Selena’s return with the musical song – “Single Soon” has brought life back to many of her fans who have been going all gaga over the song since its release on August 25. The song received 3.87M streams on Spotify globally on the day of release itself.
Announcing the release of “Single Soon”, Gomez posted on Instagram saying, “Y’all have been asking for new music for a while,” while adding, “Since I’m not quite done with SG3, I wanted to put out a fun little song I wrote a while back that’s perfect for the end of summer” (sic).
The song is currently streaming on all music apps including Spotify, and Apple iTunes among others.
