Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accused Keir Starmer and other world leaders of siding with "mass murderers, rapists, baby killers and kidnappers." He made the statement by posting a video on X after two of the Israeli embassy staff members were shot dead in Washington D.C on Thursday. He asserted that the UK prime minister, French president Emmanuel Macron and Canadian PM Mark Carney have "effectively said they want Hamas to remain in power."
The UK, French and Canadian governments had earlier issued a joint statement highlighting their commitment to recognize a Palestinian state “as a contribution to achieving a two-state solution to the war.” Netanyahu responded to the statement claiming that by giving them “hope to establish a second Palestinian state from which Hamas will again seek to destroy the Jewish state”.
“I say to President Macron, Prime Minister Carney and Prime Minister Starmer: When mass murderers, rapists, baby killers and kidnappers thank you, you're on the wrong side of justice. You're on the wrong side of humanity and you're on the wrong side of history,” he added further.
What was the shooting incident?
The jibes have followed the incident where a young diplomat couple Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim were shot outside a Jewish museum in Washington D.C. from close-range on Thursday. After shooting the staffers, the gunman allegedly walked into the building chanting “Free Palestine” before being stopped and arrested by the security staff.
Netanyahu has asserted that “Hamas wants to annihilate Jews. I could never understand how this simple truth evades the leaders of France, Britain, Canada and others.”
