When Mahindra launched its latest people mover, the Marazzo, last year, it also debuted a brand new 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine. This engine will soon find a place under the XUV300’s bonnet too. In the Marazzo, this engine is transversely mounted to maximise cabin space.  But apart from the space on offer, does the Marazzo really deliver Mahindra’s claimed fuel efficiency figure of 17.6kmpl? To find out, we put the people mover through our test cycle. Here’s what we found:

As you can see, the highway efficiency of the Mahindra Marazzo was a fair bit off the figure that Mahindra claims. But what about within the city? Well, under stop-go traffic conditions, we got a fuel efficiency figure of 14.86kmpl, which is way off the numbers claimed by Mahindra. Will a combined fuel efficiency run be the Marazzo’s saving grace, then?

The figures achieved under different driving scenarios show that whether you drive predominantly in the city or out on the highway, the Marazzo is capable of returning close to 15kmpl. But expect slight variations if you’ve got a full load on passengers onboard.

There’s a healthy chance that your findings may vary from ours as traffic and weather conditions can greatly affect a car’s fuel efficiency. Moreover, the driving cycles and styles of each individual may also vary.
