Kannada actor and former MP Ramya on Monday lodged a complaint with with the Bengaluru city police commissioner, alleging online threats and vulgar messages by fans of actor Darshan.
The threats allegedly came after Ramya shared a social media post highlighting a Supreme Court's remark criticising the Karnataka High Court's decision to grant bail to Darshan in the ongoing Renukaswamy murder case.
The actress also publicly said that Renukaswamy, "will get justice," and vowed to file a complaint against the miscreants for sending her obscene and abusive messages online.
Ramya files complaint against Darshan fans for online harassment
As per a report in Hindustan Times, after filing the complaint, Ramya told reporters, "This is not just about me. I was told I should have been murdered. I received rape threats, vulgar and deeply disturbing messages. That’s when I realised someone had to act."
"It shows just how degraded parts of our society have become," she added.
On the Dharmasthala case, she said, "We’re talking about the bodies of 500 women and young girls buried in Dharmasthala. That mindset is what fuels such horrors." The actress further said that the harassment, rape, and murder of women will continue, if we stay silent.
Ramya also shared that she has reported 43 social media accounts- the "most obscene" ones. She also thanked those who supported her and revealed that no one has reached out to her from the film industry.
The 42-year-old actress further shared that two years ago, she flagged "vile messages from a popular actor’s fans — not targeting me, but his wife and family." Their dead children were also targeted. She spoke about it back then but there was silence. "No condemnation, no accountability," she said.
Darshan's wife reaction
Darshan’s wife, Vijayalakshmi Darshan, said that she would file a complaint against Ramya.
In a statement to the media, Vijayalakshmi stated that the case against Darshan has not yet been settled in the court. "They are already calling Darshan guilty. It is not right for Ramya to comment on a case that is in the court," she said, and also confirmed that she would approach the Cyber Crime Police.
