In a news that shook people, Ilaiyaraaja’s daughter- Bhavatharini– passed away yesterday after battling cancer. The National Award-winning singer was undergoing treatment for liver cancer in Sri Lanka. Mourning the loss of his daughter, Ilaiyaraaja shared a black-and-white picture of him and his daughter from her childhood.

Ilaiyaraaja took to his X (formerly, Twitter) account to share a picture with his late daughter – Bhavatharini. The picture shows Bhavatharini as a young girl. She is wearing a frock and is seen sitting next to her father. Ilaiyaraaja is wearing headphones and is pointing to a book. The father and daughter are looking into the book. Sharing the picture, he wrote, “Dear Daughter.”

Bhavatharini is the daughter of Ilaiyaraaja and the sister of Karthik Raja and Yuvan Shankar Raja. It has been reported that her body will be brought from Sri Lanka to India for the final rites to be held in Chennai. She is survived by her husband. She was 47.
