In a conversation with Komal Nahta, the filmmaker said, "Ahaan has been doing acting workshops with YRF for the last seven years. Before COVID, Ahaan and YRF were planning a grand, larger-than-life film. But post-COVID, cinema changed, and the project was dropped. Mohit also said that people started asking Ahaan about the launch by YRF, and then Aditya Chopra called him after Covid and told him that his faith in him hasn't "diminished", but he won't mind if he starts his career somewhere else. Ahaan was determined to be launched by none other than YRF only. "Vo bach gaya. kyunki agar pehle launch hota toh bhut chota lagta (I think he was lucky—if he had debuted earlier, he would’ve come across as too young)," said Suri.
The Aashiqui 2 director also revealed that he had spent four months with Ahaan to make him appear more mature.
