Laika's sixth feature marks a major return
Directed and produced by Travis Knight, Wildwood is based on the novel by Colin Meloy, frontman of The Decemberists, with illustrations by Carson Ellis. Chris Butler, who previously wrote ParaNorman, has adapted the story for the screen.
The project has been in development for 16 years, dating back to the completion of Coraline in 2009. Wildwood is also Laika's sixth feature after Coraline, ParaNorman, The Boxtrolls, Kubo and the Two Strings and Missing Link. Each of the studio's previous five films received an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature.
Before its wider theatrical run, Wildwood will open the 40th AFI Fest on October 21. The film will also be screened in select 4DX, D-Box and Dolby Cinema locations, with Fathom Entertainment handling its US theatrical release.
Tickets are now available, with Wildwood scheduled to reach US cinemas on October 23.
