‘The Great Indian Murder’ Actress Sakshi Benipuri Talks About Getting Typecast After Playing A Bold Character 

Actress Sakshi Benipuri who is best known for her work in Tigmanshu Dhulia's ‘The Great Indian Murder’, ‘AK vs AK’, ‘Chhapaak’, ‘Section 375’ and ‘Heroine’ among others, recently got candid about her future aspirations, kind of work she is looking forward to and recalls playing a bold character in ‘The Great Indian Murder’.

The actress was seen essaying the role of Ishwari in Tigmanshu Dhulia's ‘The Great Indian Murder’. When quizzed if she wants to play a similar kind of character again, she says, "Well, there was so much more to Ishwari, but sadly the audience remembers what it remembers. I don’t like it when a character is reduced to just one bold scene. It will depend on my state of mind , the director, how much the role entices me - for me to pick up something like that again."

Sakshi also further addressed getting typecast and challenges of making it in the industry. She mentioned, "Everyone gets typecasted. Even the best can’t escape it. If not for OTT, so many wonderful actors would have faded into oblivion and never gotten a chance. The most difficult thing is to get your foot through the door. And believe me that doesn’t happen so easily ! Once they see what you can do, switching mediums is only a technicality."

She added, "Being an actor in itself is challenging enough. I have worked so hard over the last couple of years. Given such good auditions, taken such good care of myself so that I can push myself to do more. Yet, I haven’t booked any part despite of so much attention and appreciation. So it doesn’t get easy. I have said no to similar type casted work. And then that stopped coming in too."

Sharing about the kind of roles she wants to play, she said, "Well, I would love to play diverse characters that challenge me. There is so much more inside me that the audience is yet to see. From docile to hostile. From housewife to spy. I would say bring it on ! My dream role would be an epic love story. And something like ‘Francesca’ from Bridges of Madison County, ‘Ameeran’ from Umrao Jaan, ‘Sahibjaan’ from Paakeezah. Basically any film set in another time period. There is so much scope for imagination and exploration."
