'Gold' Director Alphonse Puthren Alleges That The Prithviraj Sukumaran Starrer Deliberately Flopped In Cinemas

Helmed by Alphonse Puthren, the 2022 Malayalam movie – ‘Gold’ did not perform well at the box office. The movie starred Prithviraj Sukumaran and Nayanthara in lead roles. In a recent development, the director came out to speak about how the film was deliberately sabotaged.

Alphonse Puthren is active on his Facebook page. On his Facebook, he shared a still from his previous projects and tagged the cinematographer - Anend C. Chandran. A user commented on the post and asked him to move past the failure of ‘Gold.’ Responding to his comment, Alphonse said that the movie’s failure was not an indicator of its quality, Rather, it was intentionally sabotaged by people from within the Malayalam film industry. He mentioned that it was a deliberate effort to damage the success of the film in theatres.

He further added that ‘Gold’ had significant buzz before it even hit the theatre. He mentioned that the film had collected Rs 40 crore before its release. He said, “It's the only Prithviraj film that has earned such a big amount before its release.” He added that because of the deliberate efforts ‘Gold’ received negative publicity and the revenue that the film had collected was also misrepresented.

Alphonse Puthren further revealed that he was absent from the promotions of ‘Gold’ because of his health concerns. He mentioned that his absence led to mismanagement. He added that “someone” tried to defame his movie.

In the comment, he also expressed anger towards theatre owners and commented how they do not support his projects. While he did not take names, his comment has raised a lot of speculations.
