Kashmir Police Chief Asks Pakistan To Take Body of Azhar Masood’s Nephew Killed In Encounter

After the killing of Talha Rashid, the nephew of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) Chief Masood Azhar in an encounter, Jammu and Kashmir Police today asked Islamabad to collect his body.

Kashmir Police Chief, Munir Khan asked the Pakistan to take the body of Talha Rashid, who was killed during a gunfight along with two of his associates in Aglar village, around 50 km south of Srinagar, on Monday evening.

He said Talha Rashid and the Divisional Commander of JeM, Mohammad Bhai and a local militant, Wasim Ahmad Ganie were killed in the encounter. He described Rashid and Mohammad as A-category militants. He said as JeM has owned Rashid, Pakistan should take his body. He said around 16 to 20 JeM militants were still operating in the Valley.

“Our forces are capable enough to get them,” he said while addressing media persons here.

The GOC Victor Force, Major General B.S. Raju said that the security forces have recovered M4 carbine, a US made weapon used by NATO forces, from the gunfight site. He said it was the first time that the US made weapon was recovered from militants in Kashmir. He said that the weapon was given by Pakistan army to JeM militants.

Khan said the operation was carried out in Aglar Kandi following the credible leads leading to the killing of three JeM militants. He said the local militant Waseem Ganaie of Pulwama had joined militancy on August 19, 2017.

Khan said while the cordon was being laid militants opened fire in which one army jawan identified as constable Shamsunder of 44 RR and a civilian identified as Tariq Ahmad Dar resident of Aglar Kandi got injured.

He said the army jawan succumbed later while as the injured civilian was evacuated and shifted to the hospital.

His condition is stated to be stable.
