The electoral battle to win the Lok Sabha elections is in full swing with all the political parties aggressively campaigning across the country. The 2019 election will see Prime Minister Narendra Modi making a bid to win a second term in the office while the Opposition will try to prevent the PM and BJP from coming to power again.

The exercise is the largest in the world where more than 8000 contestants will fight for 543 seats of the lower house of the parliament and 10 lakh polling stations and 1.1 million electronic voting machines (EVMs) will facilitate the process. Almost 8,000 contestants will fight for 543 seats as almost 900 million voters will exercise their franchise to elect members to the 17th Lok Sabha.

Talking to reporters Muzaffarnagar, Jameel said he left the Mayawati-led outfit as he felt only Congress could defeat the BJP in the coming elections.

- Congress on Monday demanded an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his "condemnable and divisive" statement that hurt the sentiments of people in Wayanad in Kerala.

In a press statement, Congress General Secretary K C Venugopal said, "by alleging that Rahul Gandhi is contesting Wayanad seat on account of there being residents of a particular religion living there, is a disgrace to the high office of Prime Minister is holding."
