E-Challan On Your Way: Mumbai Police Calls Out Varan Dhawan For Taking Selfie On Road

Known for its witty captions and quick responses, the Mumbai Police twitter handle today reprimanded Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan on a picture that showed him taking a selfie with an admirer in the middle of the road while leaning out of his car.

"These adventures surely work on D silver screen but certainly not on the roads of Mumbai! U have risked ur life,ur admirer’s & few others. V expect better from a responsible Mumbaikar & youth icon like U! An E-Challan is on d way 2 ur home. Next time, V will B harsher, (sic)" the twitter handle of Mumbai Police tagged Dhawan in the tweet. 

The picture in question was published in Mid Day's Daily Dossier and showed Dhawan obliging a fan with a selfie. Dhawan and the woman sitting in an auto parked adjacent to his car are seen leaning out to take a selfie, stuck in what appears to be traffic congestion. Dhawan appears to be not wearing a seat belt. 

The Bollywood actor has since apologised to the Mumbai Police and said he will next time "keep safety in mind and won't encourage this."

"My apologies .Our cars weren’t moving since we were at a traffic signal and I didn’t want to hurt the sentiment of a fan but next time I’ll keep safety in mind and won’t encourage this," he tweeted. 

Mumbai police twitter account has been competing with its Bangalore counterpart in a race to become more popular on the social networking site. The twitter account, with more than 3 million followers, has its way in unconventional, often humourous and witty manners of reaching to the public, or simply alerting them to the repercussions of not following rules, but is also known to be vigilant and quick.  Early this year, the twitter handle gave a stern reply to columnist Shobha De who tried to make fun at the Mumbai Police by trolling a policeman.

Shobhaa De had posted a picture of the policeman with the caption, 'Heavy police bandobast in Mumbai today!' The pun didn't go well with Twitter users who slammed the columnist for being insensitive. 

 The twitter handle of Mumbai Police responded to the tweet, reminding the 'responsible citizen' that they expected better from her. 

 "We love puns too Ms De but this one is totally misplaced. Uniform/official not ours. We expect better from responsible citizens like you," the tweet read.
