The Asian Individual Chess Championships 2025 is set to begin with the open and women’s categories, being hosted in Al Ain, UAE, from 6 to 16 May 2025. (More Sports News)
Featuring 150 of the finest chess talents from Asia, the tournament will be played in a nine-round Swiss format under FIDE’s time controls and regulations. The competitors will have a chance to gain FIDE rating points ahead of the upcoming Chess World Cup in October.
The top 10 players from the Open category and the top two players from the Women’s category will qualify for the FIDE World Cups in their respective sections.
Among the headline names in the Open section are India’s GM Nihal Sarin, who is the highest-ranked player in the event. He will be accompanied by the defending champion GM Shamsiddin Vokhidov of Uzbekistan, as well as GM Salem A.R. Saleh, GM Nodirbek Yakubboev, and others.
India has sent a formidable contingent to the Open category, including GM Sarin, GM Murali Karthikeyan, and GM Leon Luke Mendonca, alongside a host of young talents like GM Pranav V, GM Aditya Mittal, and GM Pranesh M.
Meanwhile, IM Vantika Agarwal will lead the Indian contingent in the women’s section, along with IM Nandhidhaa PV and IM Padmini Rout.

Asian Individual Chess Championships 2025 – Prize Money
The Asian Individual Chess Championships 2025 tournament has a total prize pool of USD 80,000 for the Open and Women’s categories.
The winners will get USD 10,000 and USD 7,000 for the Open and Women’s categories, respectively. Runners-up will be awarded USD 8,000 (Open) and USD 6,000 (Women’s), and third-placed players will get USD 6,000 (Open) and USD 5,000 (Women’s).
Meanwhile, the winner of the Blitz round will be awarded USD 2,500 for the Open category and USD 1,500 for the Women’s category.
