NED Vs BAN, ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Netherlands Thrash Bangladesh By 87 Runs In Kolkata - As It Happened

The Netherlands have registered their second win of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 by defeating Bangladesh in Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Saturday. Captain Scott Edwards was spot-on with bowling changes after playing a captain's knock of 68 runs. The Associate side set a below-par target of 230 runs for Bangladesh but the Dutch bowlers kept the lengths tight and used the pitch to their benefit. Aryan Dutt dismissed Litton Das early for just three runs. Tanzid Hasan also got removed by Logan van Beek. They then bowled three consecutive maiden overs and created pressure on Bangla batters. Paul van Meekeren took three wickets in quick succession and destroyed Bangladesh's batting line-up. Mahmudullah kept the Dutch victory on hold for some time, but the rising required run rate kept building the pressure that eventually led him to play a big shot which led to his downfall. Eden Garden Stadium had a large number of Bangladesh supporters but it was of no use for them as their team sufered a 87-run defeat. This is the Netherlands' second win against Bangladesh in ODIs. Now, in the head-to-head records, they have a 2-1 lead. Netherlands are nearing a famous win. Mahmudullah, the lone warrior also went down fighting after Aryan Dutt took his catch on Bas de Leede's bowling. Apart from that, Bangladesh batters looked mediocre in batting. The rising required run rate and slow batting kept building pressure on the Bangla batters. Only 30 runs were made in the last 10 overs with the loss of one wicket. With 2 wickets in hand, Bangladesh still need 90 runs in 60 balls.

38 runs were added in this phase with just one wicket's loss. Bas de Leede's direct hit sent Mahedi Hasan back to the pavilion. Netherlands have bowled tight lengths and kept the Bangla batters at bay. Very disciplined bowling from Paul van Meekeren and Logan van Beek in the middle. The Netherlands tried two overs from Shariz Ahmed but he could not succeed in extracting any wicket. Brilliant bowling changes on the right occasions from Scott Edwards so far. The Netherlands need three more to win this. Mahmudullah will try to repeat his last knock. Bangladesh's required run rate is above 6 now.

Bangladesh's batting collapsed in Kolkata's Eden Gardens. After two early scalps in the first powerplay, the batting order kept losing their wicket. Paul van Meekeren struck thrice as Najmul Hossain Shanto went for 9(18), Shakib Al Hasan 5(14) and bowled Mushfiqur Rahim for 1(5). Bas de Leede got the wicket of set Mehidy Hasan Miraz for 35(40). Only 33 runs were scored in this phase for the loss of 4 wickets. Mahmudullah and Mahedi Hasan are at the crease.

Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan opened Bangladesh's batting. Dutch bowlers kept them silent for a long time and it seemed as if the spinners were getting help from the pitch. Aryan Dutt removed Litton Das early and Tanzid Hasan also gave his wicket to Logan van Beek for just 15 runs. Netherlands bowlers three maidens over consecutively to put the pressure on Bangladesh batters. Mehidy Hasan Miraz broke the shackles and targeted Aryan Dutt to keep the scoreboard moving.

Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan opened the Bangladesh batting and as always Aryan Dutt opened the bowling attack from the Dutch side. Only two singles from the first over. Bangladesh are off the mark.

Innings Break!!
This game has all the makings of a low-scoring thriller. After an intriguing see-saw battle in the first innings, Netherlands are bowled out for 229 in their allotted 50 overs at the Eden Gardens. Bangladesh's bowlers kept chipping away with wickets at regular intervals, and at one point looked like wrapping up the innings for under 200, but the gritty Dutch were having none of that and fought it out to post a respectable, even if below-par score. It is a credit to Bangladesh bowlers' collective effort that four of them took two wickets each, and though they got the final wicket off the last ball of the 50th over, all-rounder Logan van Beek hit 17 runs off its first five balls to push his side to a fighting total.

Sybrand Englebrecht gave good support to captain Scott Edwards. Edwards played a very cautious innings so far. Both batters have not taken any chance and would like to finish on a high note having five wickets left. Death overs are going to be a phase where the Dutch batters would be looking to score big runs and having two set batters at the crease would be handy for the Netherlands. Only 38 runs came in the last 10 overs. Netherlands need to shift gears now.

Shoriful Islam and Mehedi Hasan Miraz bowled a few tight overs in this phase and kept the Dutch batters at bay. Taskin Ahmed gets the wicket of confident-looking Bas de Leede 17(32). Mustafizur Rahman took an easy catch. Captain Scott Edwards along with Sybrand Engelbrecht is looking to post a respectable total on the board. Both batters have played big innings in the tournament before and would be eyeing to play one more in Kolkata. The pitch has given good support to the batters but none of the Dutch batters have utilised the conditions. Engelbrecht and Edwards pair can add runs at a good pace. Bangladesh are in search of wickets here.

Wesley Barresi played some beautiful shots and kept the scoreboard moving but Mustafizur Rahman dismissed him for run-a-ball 41. Shakib Al Hasan took an easy catch. Then It was Shakib's time to strike. He sent Colin Ackermann back and this time Mustafizur Rahman took the catch. Ackermann has gone for 15(33). Scott Edwards and Bas de Leede came to the crease and looked to score slowly and steadily. Scott Edwards was dropped twice by the Bangla fielders and now both batters are looking to rebuild the innings for Netherlands.

Taskin Ahmed removed Vikramjit Singh 3(9) early in the game to put Netherlands under pressure. Shoriful Islam struck again after sending Max O'Dowd for a duck. Wesley Barresi, who is the oldest player to play in a World Cup match rebuilt the innings with Colin Ackermann and settled the Dutch innings. The Netherlands need a partnership from here.
