Lanka Premier League 2023: Babar Azam, Shakib Al Hasan, David Miller To Be The Star Attraction

International stars like Babar Azam, Shakib Al Hasan and David Miller will be part of the Lanka Premier League beginning July 30.

The fourth edition of the Lanka Premier League will feature Pakistan captain and star batter Babar Azam, swashbuckling South African David Miller and the ever-dependable Bangladehi Shakib Al Hasan as its major star signings. (More Cricket News)

Sri Lanka’s premier T20 league will see five teams competing against each other, starting from July 31 till August 22, 2023. Colombo Strikers, Dambulla Aura, Galle Titans, Jaffna Kings, B-Love Kandy are the participating sides.

The franchise hailing from northern tip of Sri Lanka, Jaffna, has pocketed the titles for the first three seasons, once as Jaffna Stallions in 2020, and twice as Jaffna Kings in 2021 and 2022.

Mercurial batter and one of the best going around these days, Babar Azam will don the jersey of the capital based franchise, the Colombo Strikers. Before joining LPL, the Pakistani captain will fly down to the island nation to play a two-match Test series against the Lankans. Galle Titans have snaffled up Bangladeshi star Shakib Al Hasan.

Al Hasan missed the 2023 IPL season as the Bangladesh Cricket Board denied NOC to the Test captain until the one-off Test against Irelandin Dhaka from April 4 to 8. Meanwhile, three-time champion Jaffna Kings have opted for the service of South African finisher David Miller. Apart from them, the likes of Chris Lynn, Lungi Ngidi, Matthew Wade, Wahab Riaz, etc. are some other quality internationals.

Local players like Angelo Mathews, Charith Asalanka, Dasun Shanaka will grace the scene in the summit event.

R. Premadasa stadium in Colombo and Pallekelle stadium in Kandy are the two grounds that will host the month-long tournament.
