Lewis Hamilton called himself "absolutely useless" during harsh self-criticism after struggling in qualifying at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The British driver will start from 12th in Sunday's race while Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc managed to snatch pole position away from the dominant McLaren drivers.

Hamilton also struggled in Belgium last week after being knocked out in the first part of both the sprint and full-length qualifying at Spa.

He would have hoped for a better performance in Hungary, where no driver has more wins (eight), pole positions (nine), podiums (12), and points (286) than Hamilton.

Hamilton is yet to finish on the podium after 13 races with Ferrari. Only Louis Rosier (15) and Ivan Capelli (14) have completed more races for the team without finishing in the top three.

But it looks like a tough ask for him to change that on Sunday, and the seven-time world champion did not mince his words when describing his qualifying performance, even suggesting Ferrari may need to replace him.

"It's me every time. I'm useless, absolutely useless," Hamilton told Sky Sports after qualifying.

"The team have no problem. You've seen the car's on pole. So they probably need to change driver."
