The India women's cricket team came really close to forcing a Super Over, but missed a run-out chance off the last ball as England scraped home by five wickets in the fifth and final T20I at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on Saturday (12 July, 2025). Despite the narrow loss, India won the series 3-2, having clinched it with a game to spare.
The hosts completed the highest run-chase at Edgbaston, getting to India's 168-run target in exactly 20 overs. Sophie Ecclestone scampered through for a single as one was needed off the final delivery of the match, with Smriti Mandhana's under-arm throw from mid-on going just wide.
Earlier, Shafali Verma hit a 41-ball 75 to power the visitors to a 167-run total. England were off to a flying start, clattering 101 runs in 10.4 overs for the opening-wicket partnership, but wickets began falling after that to make things interesting.
Charlie Dean was named the Player of the Match for her three-wicket haul (3/23 in four overs), while India's left-arm spinner Shree Charani finished as the Player of the Series with 10 wickets.
England captain Tammy Beaumont had earlier won the toss and opted to bowl first.
The Women in Blue had secured a six-wicket win in their last outing at Old Trafford, Manchester.
