Brydon Carse and Jamie Smith offered some resistance with half-centuries, but their efforts were short-lived as Mohammed Siraj dismissed both set batters. Bumrah then returned to wrap up the tail, completing his five-wicket haul by dismissing Chris Woakes for a duck and Jofra Archer for just 4, as England folded for a below-par total.
India too had a shaky start to their first innings, with the opener Yashasvi Jaiswal falling early for just 14. Karun Nair looked promising with a solid 40 before being dismissed, while captain Shubman Gill managed only 16. However, KL Rahul held firm with a much needed unbeaten 53, and Rishabh Pant supported him well, remaining not out on 19 as India reached 145 at stumps.
The five-match Test series is currently tied at 1-1. England claimed a five-wicket win in the opener at Headingley, while India bounced back emphatically with a thumping 336-run victory at Edgbaston in the second Test.
