After losing the first Test to England, India led by Shubman Gill bounced back with a solid start to the second match at Edgbaston. It wasn’t all smooth sailing, though, as they faced a few scary moments on Day 1. Thankfully, the scares were all on the pitch, not from the skies, with the weather staying dry throughout the opening day of the Anderson-Tendulkar series. As for Day 2, let's check the weather update here.
India lost the toss once again, and unsurprisingly, Ben Stokes opted to bowl first--again. But unlike the first Test, Day 1 at Edgbaston wasn’t a festival of centuries. Yashasvi Jaiswal looked set for another ton but fell for 87, while KL Rahul managed only 2. Karun Nair scored 31, and Rishabh Pant--after his twin centuries in the previous game--departed for just 25.
However, skipper Shubman Gill held firm, crafting a brilliant unbeaten 114 runs. The captain along with Ravindra Jadeja, who finished on 41, steered India to a strong 310/5 at stumps.
