In a landmark moment for women’s cricket, the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) flagged off its first-ever Women’s T20 Tournament on Monday, marking a major stride towards gender inclusivity in the sport. With 41 registered clubs divided into five groups, the competition kicked off with the opening clash between N.K. Khanna CC and R.P.C.A., hosted at Modern School, Barakhamba Road.

The matches will be played across three venues—Modern-1 and Modern-2 grounds at Modern School, Barakhamba Road, and Guru Gobind Singh College in Pitampura. Over 615 players aged above 14 are expected to participate, representing the city’s most promising cricketing talent.

DDCA President Rohan Jaitley hailed the event as a "monumental milestone" in the journey of women's cricket. “This is more than just a tournament—it’s a platform for opportunity and recognition,” he said. “We aim to nurture future stars and strengthen Delhi’s presence in Indian women’s cricket.”

Sangeeta Jaitley, wife of the late Arun Jaitley, performed the ceremonial toss, symbolizing a passing of legacy and reaffirming the association’s commitment to promoting women’s cricket. “No other state association has yet hosted a women’s T20 tournament of this scale,” she noted. “This initiative will inspire young girls to pursue the sport seriously.”

DDCA Vice President Shikha Kumar and Secretary Ashok Sharma also lauded the initiative, affirming continued support for budding players. Several prominent cricketing figures, including former BCCI President C.K. Khanna, ex-women cricketers, and DDCA directors, were present to witness this historic beginning.

This tournament is expected to serve as a key scouting platform for the Delhi Premier League (DPL) auction and domestic selection trials, paving the way for the next generation of women cricketers.
