And The Award Goes To: Deepti, Gill Named Women’s And Men’s Player Of The Year

Shubman Gill and Deepti Sharma won top honours at the 2023 CEAT Cricket Rating (CCR) awards in Mumbai on Tuesday. They were named Men’s and Women’s International Cricketer of the Year, respectively. 

Surya Kumar Yadav was named T20 Batsman of The Year, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar the T20 Bowler. Jalaj Saxena was adjudged Domestic Cricketer of the Year. 

Gill was also named the ODI Batter of the Year.

Also among the winners were Yuzvendra Chahal for becoming the first Indian bowler with 300 T20 wickets, Shafali Verma for being the U-19 Women’s World Cup winning captain, and Brendon McCullum of Bazball fame for Best Coach.

India’s 1983 World Cup star Madan Lal and 1970s and 80s left-arm seamer Karsan Ghavri were given Lifetime Achievement Awards. 

This was the 25th edition of the CEAT Ratings Awards.

Harsh Goenka, Chairman, RPG Group, which owns CEAT, said, “Cricket is a game that unites people from all walks of life, and it is our hope that the awards will continue to bring people together and promote the game around the world. We also extend our heartfelt wishes to Team India for success in the upcoming World Cup.”

The great Sunil Gavaskar, Chief Adjudicator of the CEAT Cricket Ratings, said, “The CEAT Cricket Rating has been a torchbearer to recognize and promote impeccable talent in this great sport. The award winners this year are global role models of sport and it should hopefully inspire future generations of great talent to take up the mantle ahead.”

A delighted Shafali Verma said, “CEAT has provided a significant platform for women’s cricket to shine. It’s truly heartwarming to see our efforts being celebrated on such a grand stage. And I firmly believe that such initiatives will only provide motivation to young girls to take up the sport and empower themselves as individuals.”

Gill said, “As a cricketer, it’s always about pushing boundaries, facing challenges head-on, and constantly improving to reach new heights. This recognition reinforces the parallel between our commitment to excellence and would encourage me to strive harder.”
