Uttar Pradesh: Tension Grips Hapur After Muslim Youth Beaten To Death After Bike Accident On Dussehra

A Muslim man was beaten to death by a mob on Tuesday after he hit a man participating in Dussehra celebrations in the Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh. The accident escalated into a scuffle and led to the violent attack on the 25-year-old Irshad Mohammad.

According to reports, Mohammad was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared 'brought dead'.

Hapur SP Abhishek Verma told PTI, "Police received information that a person named Irshad was lying injured near Luhari Market. Bahadurgarh Police instantly reached the spot and Irshad was taken to the CHC where he succumbed to his injuries. The investigation revealed that a scuffle broke out between Irshad and another group over bike collision, in which Irshad suffered head injuries. The situation in the village is under control."

Consequently, the district administration found it necessary to allocate additional resources, including the deployment of a battalion from the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), with the objective of maintaining control and preventing potential communal disturbances.

Additional Superintendent of Police Raj Kumar told The Hindu, “We have arrested two people, and teams have been formed to nab the four other accused named in the First Information Report (FIR). We are keeping a close vigil in the area. After the incident, a PAC has also been deployed along with the additional district police to control the situation. The FIR is lodged at the Bahadurgarh police station under sections 302 (murder), 148 (armed with deadly weapon) and a few other sections."
