Uttar Pradesh Government To Transform Bundelkhand Into Major Centre For Bulk Drug Production

The Uttar Pradesh government, under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's leadership, is set to transform Bundelkhand into a major centre for bulk drug production.

In addition to establishing the Bulk Drug Park in Lalitpur, Bundelkhand, the state government has also allocated land for a dry port in the region. The cargo airport, situated 45 kilometres away from the Bulk Drug Park in Lalitpur, will be complemented by a 60-acre allocation for a dry port nearby.

These facilities will provide customs clearance services for pharmaceuticals manufactured in the park and dispatched from there. Moreover, an Inland Container Depot (ICD) is in the works near the park.

Reportedly, the Industrial Development Department officials said that the dry port will house an Inland Container Depot (ICD) office equipped with a customs facility, shipping lines with agency services, and accommodations for agents. Moreover, it will feature a container stacking area conforming to heavy equipment standards, footpaths, and warehouses for prolonged import and export activities.

The terminal will also provide amenities such as ample parking space for incoming vehicles, electronic weighbridges, container loading and unloading facilities, and modern handling equipment. The decision to establish a bulk drug park in Lalitpur, Bundelkhand, is particularly significant as this is the sole location in the state that meets all the prerequisites for a bulk drug park. Such a park necessitates specialized infrastructure, including reliable power supply, strong connectivity, water access, and digital fibre connectivity.

According to reports, Lalitpur fulfils all these criteria. Initially, it was anticipated that the Bulk Drug Park would necessitate 25 MLD (Million Liters per Day) of water, of which 15 MLD would be sourced from pure freshwater, while the remaining 10 MLD would be used within the plant and subsequently recycled. The water supply for the park would be sourced from the check dam situated on the Jamni River, located just outside the Bulk Drug Park. In addition, Lalitpur boasts numerous sizable reservoirs that can effectively address any water scarcity issues year-round. Furthermore, it is estimated that the park will have a power demand of approximately 200 MW.

The reports also suggest that a dual-feed 220 KV substation will be established within the park To meet these requirements.

Additionally, the park already benefits from close proximity to existing power sources, including a 1980 MW thermal power plant and a 600 MW ultra-mega solar park, both of which will supply electricity to the park.

Furthermore, road connectivity plays a pivotal role for the park's accessibility. It is advantageously located just 25 km away from National Highway-44, which happens to be the longest National Highway in the country, linking 13 states from Srinagar to Kanyakumari. This strategic location significantly streamlines the import and export of pharmaceutical products.
