In a bid to resolve the ongoing political deadlock between Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, the Supreme Court put forth a unique suggestion today. The court proposed that both parties sit down and agree upon a suitable candidate for the position of Chairperson of the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC), aiming to break the impasse caused by the Centre's controversial ordinance that overturned a top court's judgment granting more authority to the Delhi government over its bureaucrats, according to media reports.

During the hearing, Senior Advocate Harish Salve, representing the Lieutenant Governor, expressed his agreement with the court's proposal. The court emphasized the importance of both parties reaching a consensus and resolving the issue collaboratively.

The suggestion emerged after Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing the Aam Aadmi Party government, informed the court that the DERC was currently "headless." Additionally, the court is also considering a separate plea challenging the entire ordinance, with plans to issue notice and refer the matter to a Constitution bench. The next hearing for the case is scheduled for Thursday.
