Cockroach Janta Party spokesperson Saurav Das filed the suit seeking Rs 2 crore in damages and an injunction against further publication of his private details.
The lawsuit alleges representatives of The Pamphlet criminally trespassed on Das's Greater Kailash residence, recorded its interiors, and posted the video online.
Justice Sachin Datta of the Delhi High Court has issued notices and summons to commentator Abhijit Iyer Mitra, X and several media platforms regarding a privacy lawsuit. Cockroach Janta Party spokesperson Saurav Das filed the lawsuit after his residential address was exposed online.
The court directed summons to multiple media defendants including The Pamphlet, Jaipur Dialogues, Sunday Guardian and LawBeat.
X's lawyer informed the court that posts containing the spokesperson's private details had been taken down and were no longer accessible.
Das filed the suit to seek Rs 2 crore in damages and an injunction to restrain the defendants from further publishing his private details.
Details Of Trespass Allegations
Das has resided in a rented property in Greater Kailash since early 2025, senior advocate Akhil Sibal said.
The lawsuit claims representatives of The Pamphlet trespassed on the property, recorded its interiors and published the video on X on August 5. The video garnered over 2.1 million views and was republished on August 10.
The suit alleges Mitra disclosed Das's residential details during a programme hosted by LawBeat, identifying his neighbour and incorrectly stating the monthly rent was around Rs 7 lakh. Mitra subsequently published multiple posts containing the personal information.
Police Complaint And Defense
Das filed a complaint through an authorised representative at the Greater Kailash police station on August 5, 2026. He sought a First Information Report under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 329 for criminal trespass, Section 351 for criminal intimidation and Section 356 for defamation.
The complaint named Mitra, Deepak Sharma, The Pamphlet and The Jaipur Dialogues.
It alleged 15 to 20 YouTubers gathered outside his home, unlawfully entered the premises in his absence and recorded its interiors. They then interrogated his caretaker, security guards and neighbours to gather information about his personal finances and private affairs.
During the hearing, The Pamphlet's lawyer Abhinav Chandrachud sought time to file a response on the merits of the case. Mitra's lawyer opposed the suit, arguing there was no cause of action against him.
Justice Datta scheduled the next hearing for September 14
