Cyclone Michuang: Low-Pressure Area May Develop Into Cyclonic Storm Over Parts Of Bay Of Bengal In 48 Hours

The India Meteorological Department announced that within the next 48 hours, a developing weather system may intensify into a cyclonic storm over the Southwest and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal.

According to reports, meteorological scientists have said that the low-pressure area hovering over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining South Andaman Sea has escalated into a well-marked low-pressure area.

According to forecasts, the system is anticipated to track in a west-northwest direction, gradually gaining strength and evolving into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal by November 30.

The IMD anticipates light to moderate rainfall across most areas in the Nicobar Islands, with isolated instances of heavy to very heavy rainfall expected between November 29 and December 1. Similarly, light to moderate rainfall is projected for most places in the Andaman Islands, with isolated instances of very heavy rainfall specifically on November 30.

Wind patterns are expected to become robust, reaching speeds of 25-35 kmph, gusting up to 45 kmph over the South Andaman Sea and adjoining Andaman & Nicobar Islands on November 29, as per the IMD's latest advisory.

Fishermen are strongly advised to exercise caution, refraining from venturing into the South Andaman Sea on November 29 and 30. Additionally, they are urged to avoid the southeast Bay of Bengal from November 30 to December 2. The IMD emphasizes steering clear of the southwest Bay of Bengal on November 30 and December 2, and avoiding the central Bay of Bengal from December 1 morning onwards.

The Odisha government has proactively placed seven coastal districts on high alert in response to the escalating threat. Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, and Ganjam districts have been specifically identified in a letter from the Special Relief Commissioner, Satyabrata Sahoo. The directive highlights the likelihood of the low-pressure area over the South Andaman Sea intensifying into a depression and developing into a cyclonic storm. The authorities are taking precautionary measures to ensure the safety of residents in the affected regions.
