Army Personnel Arrested for Allegedly Aiding Grenade Attack on YouTuber's Home

An army personnel was arrested on Thursday for allegedly providing online training to a suspect for hurling a hand grenade at Jalandhar-based YouTuber Rozer Sandhu’s home last month, Punjab police said.

The army personnel named Sukhcharan Singh was posted in Jammu and Kashmir, according to media reports. The grenade was thrown at the intervening night of March 15 and March 16, but did not go off. 

After the incident last month, Pakistani gangster Shahzad Bhatti reportedly had claimed responsibility for the attack since Sandhu had used derogatory remarks against the Muslim community.

The army has been briefed about the alleged involvement of Singh in the grenade attack. Consequently, the court sent Singh to five days of police remand while investigation is underway, The Hindu reported. Seven arrests have been made in the case.

Explosive attacks have become common in the Punjab region, a hand grenade was thrown at BJP politician Manoranjan Kalia in Jalandhar’s residence on April 8. Explosives were also hurled at police posts in Amritsar and Gurdaspur in the past months.
