Amritsar: Gangster Fires At Punjab Police, Gets Killed In Shootout

While under police custody, gangster Amritpal Singh, handcuffed, reportedly fired shots at the police team from a concealed pistol and attempted to escape.

Gangster, Amritpal Singh, 22, was killed after an exchange of fire with the Punjab Police at Jandiala Guru near Amritsar on Wednesday morning. 

The incident happened when Singh, taken into custody on Tuesday, was being accompanied by the police to recover heroin and a weapon in his possession.

While under police custody, Amritpal Singh, handcuffed, reportedly fired shots at the police team from a concealed pistol and attempted to escape.

In response to the threat, police officers retaliated with gunfire, resulting in Singh sustaining critical injuries. Satinder Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police of Rural Amritsar, confirmed that the gangster was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

"During interrogation, he revealed the location of 2 kg of heroin. We brought him to Jandiala Guru to recover the narcotics. Along with the narcotics, he had a concealed pistol and opened fire at the police officials, injuring them. In self-defence, the police responded with gunfire, ultimately killing the gangster," said Satinder Singh, as quoted by the news agency PTI.

Amritpal Singh hailed from Bhagwa village near Jandiala Guru and was currently facing trial in three murder cases.
