In a tragic turn of events, a North Carolina mother has been charged with murder and negligent child abuse in connection with the death of her 10-year-old son. The woman was arrested on Thursday by Morrisville police following a distressing discovery at her residence.

The harrowing incident unfolded on Wednesday when officers responded to a report of an unresponsive child at the home. Despite their efforts, authorities were unable to revive the young boy. Disturbingly, it was revealed that a significant amount of time had elapsed since the child's demise, leading to a state of decomposition in his body.

While the warrants against the accused mother allege that she had been starving her son, the documents did not specify the duration of the alleged neglect. However, law enforcement has underscored that abuse and neglect are believed to be significant contributing factors to the tragic death of the young boy.

As reported by the News & Observer, the capital defender's office stated that they had not yet assigned an attorney to her case.

Further details are awaited.
