A tsunami watch has been issued for parts of Russia after five powerful earthquakes were recorded this Sunday. All the quakes occurred within an hour.
A 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck off the east coast of Kamchatka, Russia’s far east, according to the US National Tsunami Warning Centre. The earthquakes occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres. The first quake recorded a magnitude of 5.0, and the second hit a 6.7 magnitude.
AFP reports, 151 km east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, at a depth of 8.7 km, said the US States Geographical Survey (USGS).
The records of the earthquakes by the USGS indicate that there have been a total of five quakes in the region, all at depths of around 10 km -

Magnitude 7 (142 km E of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia)
It is the 7.4 magnitude quake, which hit at 0849 GMT, that prompted the USGS to warn that “hazardous tsunami waves are possible” within 300 km (186 miles) of the epicentre, located in the Pacific Ocean, near the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
Official authorities have yet to report casualties.
