Honda has revealed that it will be launching the latest iteration of the Civic in India in March 2019. It even revealed the Civic’s powertrain details recently. So let’s take a look at how it stacks up against its immediate rivals - the Skoda Octavia, Hyundai Elantra and the Toyota Corolla Altis.

The Honda Civic is available with a 1.8-litre petrol engine paired with a CVT. As far as the powertrain’s output is concerned, the Civic is not the most powerful sedan in its segment. In fact, it produces only 1PS more than the Altis, which is the least powerful car here. However, the Civic-CVT is the most fuel efficient petrol-automatic car in its segment with a claimed fuel efficiency of 16.5kmpl.

When it comes to the diesel engine, the Civic is powered by the same 1.6-litre unit as the CR-V and is available with a manual transmission only. The engine is rated to produce 300Nm of peak torque, only 20Nm short of the Octavia. However, when it comes to outright power, both the Octavia and Elantra are more powerful than the Civic. The least powerful car here is the Altis, which gets a 1.4-litre diesel engine that only produces 88PS of maximum power. Based on the claimed figures, the Civic diesel-MT is the most fuel efficient car in this segment. But rest assured, we’ll be putting these claims to test soon.

Honda Civic: The main features of the upcoming Civic are six airbags, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch colour MID, an 8-way electrically adjustable driver seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, a sunroof, remote engine start, lane watch camera and multi-angle rear view camera.

Skoda Octavia: The main features of the Skoda Octavia are seight airbags, traction control, tyre pressure monitoring system, front and rear parking sensors, a panoramic sunroof, 12-way electrically adjustable driver and passenger seat, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, a  10-speaker (including subwoofer) Canton audio system, dual-zone climate control, car telephone and a fully customizable digital instrument cluster.

Hyundai Elantra: The main features of the Hyundai Elantra are six airbags, traction control, a 10-way electrically adjustable driver seat, dual-zone fully automatic climate control and wireless phone charging.

Toyota Corolla Altis: The main features of the Toyota Corolla Altis are seven airbags, paddle shifters, a 10-way electrically adjustable driver seat, vehicle stability control, rear parking sensors and rear camera, fully automatic air conditioning and six speakers.

For now, the Skoda Octavia is the most pricey car in this comparison, while the base variant of the Hyundai Elantra is the least expensive one.
