Lokesh Kanagaraj's upcoming film, Coolie, starring Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Aamir Khan, Soubin Shahir, Upendra, and others, is reportedly made on a whopping budget of Rs 350-400 crores. There have been reports claiming that Rajinikanth and Lokesh getting paid Rs 150 crores and Rs 50 crores, respectively. Here's what the director has to say.
Is Lokesh Kanagaraj getting Rs 50 crore as fee for Coolie?
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Kanagaraj didn't comment on the reports of Rajinikanth's fee in Coolie. "The Rs 50 crore you have mentioned is my salary... that has happened because of the success of my previous film, Leo. Leo made over Rs 600 crores, so now I’m getting paid twice as much as what I made previously. I pay my taxes, and I’m able to support my friends and family thanks to the same," he said.
Lokesh also said that he has no complaints about the sacrifices he made to reach that point. He also revealed that his last two years completely went into the making of Coolie, which he calls his "responsibility".
Coolie trailer release date
When asked about the trailer of Coolie, he said, "I want to deliver one trailer and then the film. More than that, anything will be a giveaway. All I wanted to deliver was one trailer, and the date is August 2."
Recently, Nagarjuna Akkineni revealed he is playing an antagonist in the film, and he would have a face-off against Rajinikanth.
Aamir will have a special cameo appearance and he will be seen in the character Dahaa in the Kanagaraj-directorial. Earlier, a report in Pinkvilla stated that he and Rajinikanth will have a high-octane 15-minute climax scene, which will be an action-packed face-off between both.
Coolie release date
Coolie will hit theatres on August 14, ahead of Independence Day. It will clash with Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR starrer War 2.
