How is Simi Selects: India’s Most Desirable different from Rendezvous....?
It has a lot more entertainment, with young celebrities as guests. The first segment is like Rendezvous. The others have them playing games and doing fun stuff that give you some real insight into their personalities.
Your favourite guest on the show?
Oh, don’t ask me that! It’s just not possible to select a favourite.
Are you going for the all-white look for your wardrobe and sets?
I am dressed mostly in white, except for the first episode with Ranbir Kapoor, where I am wearing a black outfit with a little silver on it. The sets are designed by me and are white.
Chat shows have become gossipy after Koffee with Karan. What do you think of it?
A chat show reflects the host’s personality. Just like Outlook reflects your editor’s personality. I have spent time with Karan; we love chatting. Koffee with Karan...was shaped by Karan.
Are you apprehensive about comparisons with Koffee...
No, I am clear on what my show is about.
So what is your approach on the show?
It reflects my curiosity to get to know more about the celebrities themselves and not what they think about colleagues or other people.
You’ve been away. Why the long hiatus?
Honey, I was busy writing, conceptualising this show! There has been no show in the world with this kind of set, with such a format.
What changes do you see in TV?
All shows look the same. Everybody is copying too much; nobody has original concepts.
Among the current crop of young celebs, who do you find it easiest to talk to?
Touch wood, I can have great conversations with all of them.
What are your future plans?
I will be appearing in a film. Then I’ll be going on a holiday before I start work on the next instalment of the show.
