After ‘Adipurush’ was slammed left, right and centre for its portrayal of Ramayan and its characters, it is going to be difficult for any Indian filmmaker to attempt a project based on the mythological epic. However, Nitesh Tiwari is not backing out of his film on Ramayan and going ahead with his plan of bringing it to the silver screen.

In a recent interview, the filmmaker opened up about his version of Ramayan, and also spoke about the casting of the film.

In a chat with Zoom Entertainment, Nitesh was asked if he’s still going to take up his project on ‘Ramayan’ post ‘Adipurush’ backlash, and the filmmaker said, “My question is very simple. I am also a consumer of the content that I create and if I’m not going to offend myself then I’m very confident that I might not end up offending anybody else.”

It was previously speculated that Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor could play the lead roles of Sita and Ram in the film. However, there is no official announcement about it. When asked about the casting for the film, the ‘Dangal’ director said, “Very soon.”

‘Adipurush’, starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan, released in theatres in June, and soon after that, the film’s visual effects and dialogues by Manoj Muntashir were severely slammed. Although the makers changed the dialogues after the first weekend of the film, the damage was done and people refrained from going to the theatres to watch the film.

Recently, Manoj Muntashir too apologised for ‘Adipurush’ and admitted on Twitter, “I accept people’s emotions have been hurt by Adipurush. With folded hands, I extend my unconditional apologies. May Prabhu Bajrang Bali keep us united and grant us strength to serve our sacred Sanatan and our great nation.”

Nitesh Tiwari is currently awaiting the release of his next 'Bawaal', starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor.
