Kunal Kohli has taken a humorous dig at the ongoing Tukaram Mundhe food safety crackdown, suggesting that the Maharashtra FDA Commissioner should turn his attention to Indian household kitchens. The filmmaker joked that refrigerators and kitchen shelves could be hiding expired products that have been sitting untouched for years.
Kunal Kohli’s message for Tukaram Mundhe
Taking to Instagram, Kunal Kohli suggested that Tukaram Mundhe conduct raids across Indian homes, pointing out how expired bottles and packets can remain neatly stored despite never being used. The filmmaker’s post appeared to reference the commissioner’s recent inspections of food establishments across Maharashtra.
Kohli also encouraged people to carry out their own version of a ‘Tukaram Mundhe cleaning’ at home by checking their kitchen shelves and refrigerators for old products.

The post comes amid an ongoing Maharashtra FDA crackdown on restaurants, hotels, roadside eateries and other establishments involved in preparing or selling food. The department has carried out inspections across the state and taken action against businesses where food safety violations were found.
Several eateries in Mumbai have faced licence suspensions following inspections. The FDA has also checked establishments linked to online food delivery services, with expired products among the issues identified during some inspections.
The wider crackdown has brought renewed attention to food safety in Maharashtra, particularly hygiene practices and the handling and storage of food products.

Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn and Tiger Shroff have also come under the FDA’s scrutiny over a 2024 Vimal Elaichi advertisement. Show-cause notices were issued after the department alleged that the campaign could amount to indirect promotion of prohibited pan masala or tobacco-related products.
The actors have been given 15 days from receiving the notices to submit their explanations. Further action could follow if their responses are considered unsatisfactory.
