If Jannat was all about the cricket betting scandal, Jannat 2 situates itself in the world of illegal arms trading. At the heart of things is a small-time crook (Hashmi, in a familiar role) who strikes it big here with his shrewd ways. But who soon finds himself getting trapped in the crooked world.
And from that already swampy juncture, things get even more complicated when he turns turncoat, becoming a police informant. While also falling in love with, and marrying, the beautiful doctor next door (Esha). Hashmi, yet again, manages to strike a chord with the guys on the street with his streetsmart lumpen act. As always, he aptly personifies their ambitions and aspirations.
Esha, his object of desire, has a striking Angelina Jolie-esque pout to go with the affectations and body language of a model (rather than an actress). Manish Chaudhury, last seen in Rocket Singh and on the small screen, makes for an evil presence. But the showstealer here is Randeep Hooda as the intense, brooding policeman.
The movie comes filled to the brim with cusswords and violence. Jannat 2 is a macho, chauvinistic world. The movie itself, though, acts rough and raw but isn’t gritty enough.
