IPL 2025 Auction Day 2 Live: Mumbai Indians Squad!
Mumbai Indians were the most cautious among the ten teams on display in the Indian Premier League mega auction for the next season at the start but then paid good money for some players to make up a solid squad.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru's wait-and-watch policy in the marquee sets on Day 1 of the IPL 2025 mega auction surprised many fans and experts. The franchise's most expensive pick was Josh Hazlewood at INR 12.50 crore, despite having retained just three players.
Star England fast bowler Jofra Archer was Rajasthan Royals' first big pick at the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah on Sunday (November 24, 2024). The franchise has retained its core from the 2024-25 season but released star wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler ahead of the Indian Premier League auction.
The runners-up of last season, SRH had already packed their side with some big retentions ahead of the auction. Heinrich Klaasen, Travis Head, Pat Cummins, Abhishek Sharma and Nitish Kumar Reddy were the five players already in the SRH camp ahead of the auction.
Kolkata Knight Riders threw the biggest surprise of the Indian Premier League 2025 player auction as they bought Venkatesh Iyer for INR 23.75 crore. The defending champions had already retained as many as six players ahead of the mega auction. Shockingly, they had released their captain Shreyas Iyer who on Sunday went to Punjab Kings for the second highest IPL pay cheque ever of INR 26.75 crore.
The Titans look like a titan side for the tournament with some really big international stars completing their retained group of players. They had already retained their core players including captain Shubman Gill, spin wizard Rashid Khan and young Sai Sudharsan. They had also kept two uncapped players.
At the auction, their biggest acquisition was the England T20 World Cup winning captain Jos Buttler.
In an intense bidding war, Pant was signed by LSG for an incredible sum of INR 27 crore at the auction going on in Saudi Arabia's Jeddah. The record amount saw Pant become the highest paid player in IPL history. The Super Giants had parted ways with KL Rahul ahead of the auction but had kept some big names.
LSG had managed to retain Nicholas Pooran, Mayank Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi alongside the uncapped duo of Mohsin Khan and Ayush Badoni.
The five-time IPL champions had already retained Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dube, Matheesha Pathirana and their biggest star MS Dhoni. CSK were already coming into the auction with their core intact and have done well to add some of their old players and include some new names as well.
Punjab Kings had only retained two players ahead of the auction and both of them were uncapped. In the run up to the auction, the Punjab franchise also brought in Ricky Ponting as their head coach. In the auction, they bought some good Indian players alongside trusted overseas names. The Ponting effect also loomed large on the side as five Aussies were bought by the Kings.
The Capitals had let go of their local star Rishabh Pant ahead of the auction but managed to retain their other core players. Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs and the uncapped Abhishek Porel were the four retentions for the Capitals. In the auction, they got one big Indian name in KL Rahul apart from some other big names.
