Taking a dig at Rahul Gandih, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said that the Congress leader sat in temple like he was performing namaz and the priest had to tell him that this is not a mosque.

“Uss bechare ko yeh tak nahi maloom hai ki mandir mein kaise baitha jata hai.  [Poor fellow does not even know how to sit properly in a temple.) When he visited the Kashi Vishwanath Mandir [in Varanasi], he sat like he was performing namaz. The priest had to tell him that this is a temple, not a mosque,” Adityanath said at an ABP News show.

Before being handpicked to become the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi had a full-time job as a Hindu cleric in the Gorakhpur Mutt and regularly stirred controversy with his hate-laden rhetoric against Muslims and Christians.

Adityanath’s comment is a fresh attack on Rahul Gandhi over his temple visits, seen by the BJP as an attempt to the woo Hindu votes. According to reports, BJP leaders had made Rahul’s temple visits in poll-bound Gujarat the target of a consistent attack in the last one month.

BJP general secretary-in-charge of Gujarat, Bhupender Yadav, had targeted Gandhi by saying, “Star campaigner of Congress Rahul Gandhi is visiting temples & offering prayers which is good as it is a part of Indian culture. However, this must come naturally to a person & not only during elections.”

Adityanath termed Rahul’s temple visits a pretence. Saying that it was under the UPA government that an affidavit was filed in the Supreme Court saying that gods Rama and Krishna were imaginary.
