The Board Of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI) has announced that the Women's Premier League (WPL) auction will be held on December 9 in Mumbai. It will be a mini Player's auction as the teams have already released their retention list. (Auction Live Blog | More Cricket News)
After a successful first season, the WPL is all set to return again and could take place in February-March time ahead of the Men's Indian Premier League.
Harmanpreet Kaur-led Mumbai Indians won the first season of the WPL by beating Delhi Capitals by seven wickets in the final in March earlier this year at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

The five franchises of WPL - Mumbai, Delhi, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz - have retained their 60 players that includes 21 overseas stars ahead of the auction.
The franchises have released a total of 29 players from contract.
Following players are from the five WPL franchises who were retained and released from the squads:
Delhi Capitals: Retained Players: Alice Capsey, Arundhati Reddy, Jemimah Rodrigues, Jess Jonassen, Laura Harris, Marizanne Kapp, Meg Lanning, Minnu Mani, Poonam Yadav, Radha Yadav, Shafali Verma, Shikha Pandey, Sneha Deepthi, Taniyaa Bhatia, Titas Sadhu.

What are the rules for WPL auction?
- In the auction, each team will be allowed to purchase a minimum of 15 players and a maximum of 18 players.
- The team's allocated purse value will be INR 12 crore (approx USD 1.46 million)
- Furthermore, each team have the option to acquire seven overseas players in the auction that also includes one from the Associate nation.
- Whilst playing, teams can start upto five overseas players in their playing XI, with one player can be from the Associate nation.
