One sporting triumph often sows seeds for another. That is exactly what happened in the case of 23-year-old India left-arm spinner Radha Yadav, who witnessed history in the making when India lifted the 2011 Cricket World Cup Trophy at the Wankhede Stadium, just a few kilometres away from her suburban residence in Kandivali. (Cricket News | 2023 ODI World Cup)

After having to give up the dream initially due to financial hardships of her lower-middle class family, a 12-year-old Radha vowed to give cricket a proper shot upon gaining inspiration from the 2011 victory. Radha, who was born prematurely in the seventh month to a lower-middle class family, defied all odds to rise up the ranks and eke out a spot in the Indian team.

Outlook India has joined hands with Oriflame in highlighting the lesser-told stories of sporting triumph amid adversity, via the 'Pitching Glory' initiative. Radha made her international debut at the age of 17, and soon attained the reputation of being one of India's fittest, most agile fielders. Her special skills fetched her a contract worth INR 40 lakh at the inaugural Women's Premier League, where she represented Delhi Capitals.
