Najmul Hossain Shanto's gritty century and Taijul Islam's 10 wickets in the match proved crucial for Bangladesh in their second victory overall against New Zealand in Test matches. It was also Shanto's captaincy debut in Test cricket and he was successful in leading his team to beat Kiwis for the first time in a home Test.

New Zealand captain Tim Southee would like to make some changes in the team before going to Dhaka for the 2nd Test. Recently concluded ODI World Cup's hero Rachin Ravindra was not picked in the first Test. His batting along with his left-arm orthodox bowling could be helpful on Dhaka's slow pitch. Taijul Islam's success in the first match could lead to the inclusion of any one left-arm bowler in the playing XI as Mitchell Santner was also rested in the first match.

Star New Zealand batter Kane Williamson scored his 29th Test century in Sylhet and he would like to continue his good form in the next Test match. Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mushfiqur Rahim scored crucial fifties after captain Shanto's century to set a difficult target of 332 runs for New Zealand. But Taijul Islam's spin attack restricted them to 181 runs.
