- Mukesh Ambani, and his wife Nita have landed in Rio in their private jet and checked into the Copacabana Palace, one of the most expensive hotels in the world. Nita has been nominated for an IOC membership and she may get elected at the IOC session, a day before the Games formally open.
- The Australians are making a lot of news here. Last week, they were one of the first teams to arrive at the Olympic village. But as they found their rooms flooded with water and the toilets broken, the Aussie delegation moved into hotels.Terrified by all the negative press, Rio mayor Eduardo Paes had to use all his persuasive skills to bring the Australians back. But that was not the end. A day after the Australians moved back, fire alarms went off and over 100 Australians were evacuated. While the Aussies were out in the open, a bunch of thieves entered their rooms and got away with some laptops, team shirts and other stuff.
- In Rio, there is nothing better than having a chilled beer on the beach. Hot snacks from the shacks go well with the beer. But as foreign tourists arrive, local restaurants and food vendors have upgraded their menu, with cuisine from the far-flung regions of Bahia and Minas Gerais.
