Tendulkar was bought at the auction by the Mumbai-based franchise ahead of the 2021 IPL, but was ruled out due to an injury. He was bought again by them at the 2022 auction.

Sachin Tendulkar and Arjun, thus, become the first father-son duo to play the Indian T20 domestic league. Sachin represented the same franchise from 2008 till his retirement in 2013.

In 2021, Arjun became part of Mumbai's senior squad and was subsequently included in the team for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In August 2022, he opted to play for Goa in the domestic season after quitting Mumbai, making his first-class debut against Rajasthan. He smashed his first century in the first inning of that match.

MI are led by Suryakumar Yadav against KKR in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma, who is out with a stomach bug.

Also debuting alongside Arjun is Duan Jansen, who is the twin brother of Marco Jansen. Marco represents Sunrisers Hyderabad in the League. It makes the siblings the first pair of twins to play the IPL.
