The day belonged to Mitchell Marsh and Australia as they took the honours on the first day of the 3rd Ashes Test at Headingley on Thursday. England lost Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley and Harry Brook as England ended day 1 at 68 for three after Australia were all out for 263.

Thanks to Mitchell Marsh, who scored a great century before falling for 118 as England's Mark Wood took a five-wicket haul.

Earlier, England captain Ben Stokes had won the toss and elected to bowl. With the overcast conditions, England made the most of it as Stuart Broad sent back David Warner for the 16th time in the first over. England dictated terms in the first session, Mark Wood turning in an electrifying burst of breakneck speed to whip up the Leeds crowd and Stuart Broad striking twice, but ultimately their hands let them down.

For Australia, Steve Smith has made his 100th appearance in Test cricket. England were quite poor in the field as they dropped catches that handed some reprieve to the Australian batters.
