Day 5 of the India vs England, second Test at Edgbaston saw a massive delay at the beginning due to consistent rainfall at Birmingham on 6 July 2025. Shubman Gill’s 161-run knock helped the visitors reach a commanding total of 427/6. After India’s declaration, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep combined to dismiss three wickets of England, putting them at 72/3 at stumps and needing 536 runs to win.
However, the all-important final day at a much-delayed start due to rainfall throughout the morning at Birmingham. As per weather forecasts from the Met Office, it was supposed to rain till 11:00 AM local time. After a consistent drizzle, the rain stopped at 11:30 AM local time, although there was another very brief round of showers around 20 minutes later.
With the sun out and the outfield drying quickly afterwards, the umpires allowed play to resume at 12:40 PM local time (5:10 PM IST). The BCCI announced the updated timings following the delay, and sadly, 10 overs were lost.
Despite the weather conditions, the ground is full of Indian supporters who made themselves heard as the visiting side took the field. Around 13,000 tickets have been sold for the second Test match.
The match was set to start at 5:10 PM IST and will finish at 11:30 PM IST.
