India’s Lakshya Sen will take on home favourite Kodai Naraoka in a men’s singles round of 16 clash at the Japan Open 2025 badminton on Thursday, 17 July 2025. The thrilling clash will take place at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.
Lakshya booked his place in the round of 16 after a confident 21-11, 21-18 win against China’s Wang Zheng Xing in the opening match. The 23-year-old shuttler ran away with a big lead in the first game, and then held on despite Wang’s pressure in the second to clinch the tie.
Lakshya, ranked 18 in the world in men’s singles, will face a much tougher challenge against seventh seed Naraoka in the next round. The Japanese star leads 3-1 in the head-to-head clash against Lakshya, winning their last encounter in straight sets at the Kumamoto Masters Japan 2023.
However, earlier that year, Lakshya defeated Naraoka 21-12, 21-11 in the Indonesia Masters, so the Indian shuttler will have hope of getting a positive result in the upcoming match. However, with home support behind him and deep runs at the Canada Open and multiple Super 750 events, Naraoka will be the strong favourite.
