Gayatri Gopichand Pullela and Treesa Jolly produced a spirited performance but fell short against China’s Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning in the women’s doubles semifinal at the BWF World Championships 2026 in New Delhi. The Indian pair made a strong start, taking the opening game 21-18 and raising hopes of a place in the final. However, the top Chinese duo responded strongly, winning the next two games 21-13 and 21-8 to seal the match in 71 minutes. Despite the semifinal defeat, Treesa and Gayatri secured a historic bronze medal, marking India’s first women’s doubles medal at the World Championships since 2011.
