Navi Mumbai Police have filed a case against two 24-year-old men after a video surfaced of a woman performing a stunt, dubbed "aura farming", on a moving Mercedes-Benz in the Kharghar area.
The incident reportedly occurred on July 20 and quickly went viral online, drawing concern from authorities over the growing influence of such social media challenges.
This incident comes a day after Mumbai police booked five individuals, including three women for performing a similar stunt in a moving vehicle in the Malad area. Authorities have warned of strict action against anyone participating in such acts on public roads.
What Happened?
According to PTI, the accused, identified as Alfesh Azam Sheikh and Rafique Sulde, allowed the woman to climb onto the car bonnet and strike poses while the vehicle was in motion. Police confirmed that neither of the men held a driving licence.
"Aura farming," a trend that has recently gained traction online, involves engaging in flamboyant behaviour to project charisma. It has been popularised by Indonesian teenager, Rayyan Arkan Dikha, whose poses during a moving boat race sparked a global trend.
“Such reckless acts not only endanger the lives of those involved but also create panic and a sense of fear among other road users,” a police official said, as reported by PTI.
The accused have been charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rash driving, negligent conduct, endangering human life, and attempt to commit homicide. They also face charges under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
