Telangana Assembly Polls: Congress Announces List Of 55 Candidates, Meet Top Leaders

The initial list of 55 contestants for the state assembly polls for the All India Congress Committee includes prominent figures such as Telangana PCC President Revanth Reddy, Congress Legislative Party Leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, and former ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy, T Jeevan Reddy and Duddilla Sridhar Babu.

The Congress on Sunday announced its first list of party candidates for the Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Telangana assembly elections.

The initial list of 55 contestants for the state assembly polls scheduled for November 30 includes prominent figures such as Telangana PCC President Revanth Reddy, Congress Legislative Party Leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, and former ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy, T Jeevan Reddy, and Duddilla Sridhar Babu, as announced by the All India Congress Committee.

Revanth Reddy 

Revanth Reddy is currently a Lok Sabha member representing Malkajgiri constituency. The Telangana PCC president will be contesting from the Kodangala constituency. Revath Reddy unsuccessfully contested from Kodangala during the 2018 assembly elections and was later elected from the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha segment.

Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu

The Congress legislative party leader has been given the Scheduled Caste seat for the Madhira constituency. Following the 2019 election as the CLP leader, Bhatti Vikramarka was poised to assume the role of Leader of the Opposition in the Telangana Assembly. In doing so, he is set to make history as the first Dalit to hold this position, not only in Telangana but also in the former combined state of Andhra Pradesh.

Uttam Kumar Reddy

Uttam Kumar Reddy is currently a Lok Sabha member representing Nalgonda constituency. For the upcoming polls, Reddy will be contesting from the Huzurnagar assembly constituency. The senior Congress leader became the President of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee in 2015. Previously, he had served as the Minister of Housing and Weaker Section Housing Programs in the Government of Andhra Pradesh. In 2018, he won in the assembly election for the second consecutive time from the Huzurnagar constituency.

T Jeevan Reddy

Veteran Congress leader T Jeevan Reddy has been given the Jagtial constituency for the upcoming polls. Commencing his political journey as the Panchayat Samithi president in 1981, he secured his initial election as a legislator from the Jagtial Assembly constituency, representing the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and serving as a minister for Excise. Subsequently, he shifted his allegiance to Congress and emerged victorious in several elections.

Other candidates 

Thumkunta Narsa Reddy was given Gajwel constituency where BRS president and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao would be contesting.

Former PCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy’s wife Padmavathi Reddy is being fielded from the Kodad segment.

Sitting BRS MLA Mynapally Hanumathrao, who switched over to Congress a few days ago, was given the Malkajgiri seat. His son Rohit Rao would contest from Medak assembly constituency.

While the party announced 55 for Telangana, it announced 30 candidates for Chhattisgarh and 144 party candidates for Madhya Pradesh.
